South Carolina Prison Communication Directory

South Carolina operates its state prison system through the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC). SCDC operates telephone systems for sentenced inmates at state prison complexes. All calls are outbound from the facility. Incoming calls to inmates are not accepted. Each inmate is issued a Personal Identification Number (PIN) at admission and must use it to place calls according to the calling schedule of their institution. All calls are recorded and monitored for security purposes. Calls to toll-free numbers are not allowed.

As of February 12, 2026, visitor applications are completed through the GTL VisitMe online system at scdoc.gtlvisitme.com. The same application covers the visitation scheduling system. Adults must submit a driver's license and minors require a long-form birth certificate. South Carolina is not among the states that offer free phone calls at state prisons. The SCDC number is required for all mail and communication accounts. Use the SCDC inmate search at doc.sc.gov to find the SCDC number and current facility.

Effective October 1, 2025, SCDC inmates can only receive publications sent directly from approved vendors. Books from Barnes and Noble and Books-A-Million must be purchased online rather than in-store. Books from other sources are rejected and sent to Contraband without the opportunity for the sender to get a refund. South Carolina county jails use their own phone vendors independently from SCDC state facilities. Always confirm the specific provider for each county facility before setting up any account.
